Constant Crashes
« on: December 06, 2012, 03:51:16 am »
Well, this is a long time problem. Ever since I started playing FH, my game would crash at random times. But when it crashes, I wouldn't be able to close the window, not even with my Task Manager unless I restarted the entire computer. It used to only happen every once in a while, so it didn't bother me much. But eventually it gets to a point where it happens so frequently, I'll end up with three un-closeable FH tabs open at a time. I've reinstalled several times, and it seems to work for a while, but then it happens all over again. More recently, I'm just crashing constantly after I log in. This time it actually tells me that FH has stopped working, and it closes, unlike previously where it just stops Responding. I've tried resetting Home to see if changing maps makes a difference, but I keep crashing anyway. Help would be much appreciated with these two problems!

Ah, Have you tried switching Rendering systems? to OpenGL or Direct3D?

Hello Raw! Thanks for replying. And I've never had any other Rendering options. I only have one. OpenGL. I've been told to try that before, but for some reason I don't have that option, lol.

You should have the option everyone does maybe you're just not looking in the right place :)?
On the game's main menu go to "options" then click "video" and set the video settings from there:

Switch rendering subsystem as Rawy suggested from OpenGL to Direct3D9 but also try just in case to
Turn Anti Aliasing to none
Water Reflection to off
& View Distance to 0

Oh, thank you LordSuragaha! I didn't know that was where I should change Rendering systems. I was looking at the little pop-up box that comes up when FH crashes. What's strange is THAT box says I'm using OpenGL, but as I look at the options Rendering system, it says I'm using Direct3D9, lol. Then again, I know nothing about how this works. So should I switch the one in Options to OpenGL, then? Would this solve both issues?

You're welcome and yes use the screenshots I provided above as a reference and as Rawy said just switch from OpenGL to Direct3D9 first. If your game works fine without touching the other settings than you're good to go but if it doesn't you can also try changing up those other settings I mentioned above in the same section. Though it's not a guaranteed fix we at least hope this works so let us know how it goes :)
Goodluck

I think you misunderstood :c .. The little crash box thing that pops up before I get to the log in screen says OpenGL. But when I looked into the options, like on your screenshots, it says I'm using Direct3D9. So I don't really know what I'm supposed to switch it to. To OpenGL like it says on the pop-up box after a crash? All the other settings are already exactly as you told me to set them.

When you go to the main menu and click the video settings in options the rendering subsytem that you are using is highlighted as in my case I am using Direct3D9 and so it is highlighted. Switch to the opposite rendering subsystem from the one that is highlighted and test it out. You keep mentioning the crash pop up but do you get any error messages and if so what do they say? If changing the rendering subsystem doesn't work then have you considered to try running the game as an admin? Also when you uninstalled the game before did you make sure that you also deleted the Feral Heart folder before reinstalling?

omgeee its mah friend cx hai morbid its vipen or as you saw me as the little wolf in the carpe deim maps, but yesh ive had this same problem to, usually switching renders helps but also check to see if theres particle files you have ending with 1 or 2 in the coding (its easy to see dont worry xD) but if it has that delete the numbers because it can cause your game to randomly crash. ~vipen
