Why are my HeightMaps so dysfunctional?
« on: January 19, 2013, 09:17:28 pm »
I've been getting really frustrated about when my HeightMaps are unable to work. Usually when I type it in after saving it from Gimp {513x513 and Grayscale} it says 'Cannot find ___!' or the game crashes. This map is for my mapped group and I'm anxious to keep them waiting longer than they should be.
Okay. I have tried everything. I have tried saving the Height Map in Gimp, Paint, and I even anchored the layer. I saw it doesn't work below an .xcf file. I've done the correct capitalization in saving it {Terrain etc.} But what am I doing wrong? Please help-- anyone. I'll appreciate it a lot.
..... What was I on about?

I'm not much of a map making expert but you could try looking here for some tips :3 :

I may be able to help. :3

A few quick questions first, If I may.:

What is the exact name of your HeightMap file?
What type of file did you save it as? (Jpeg, Png?)

I also believe the dimensions should be 512x512, but I may be wrong. If you want, go into your maps file and open up the Water Mill height map in Gimp, and copy and paste your map overtop of it, so you have the correct size. Also, make sure you're saving the file in the correct folder.

FeralHeart>>Media>>Terrains

Hopefully this helps, I may have some further options if none of these help. ^^

I am having this exact problem, as you can see by my post... I enter the name of it and bam, FeralHeart.exe has stopped working. I have mine as "MountainsMysteries.png" and it is 513x513 in the correct place, FeralHeart>>Media>>Terrains.

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the Dark Side of the Moon!

Make sure to flatten your maps before saving them as 513x513 .png files.

I've been doing the exact same thing I  did with this one on every other map I've done, but for some reason this one just won't cooperate.

The reason why your file isn't working is because you must have "Terrain" at the end of your file name. Rename your .png file to "MountainsMysteriesTerrain.png"

Oh yes, I have terrain at the end, sorry. It is in FeralHeart>>Media>>Terrains, and when I enter it in the Height Map box thing, it crashes.

Alright, try shortening the name maybe, and make sure that all the layers are merged/flattened. Also make sure that your file is in grayscale. That's all I know that may help. ^^

Make sure there is no alpha channel applied to the heightmap, to check and/or remove it right-click on the layer and if you are able to click 'remove alpha channel' then click it and try with your heightmap again
