Map Downloading - 7zip?
« on: January 28, 2013, 03:55:51 am »
 /First off, if this does not belong in the Game Help area, someone please move it. ^^"/

Yep, another derpy question from Jennifer. Go figure.
Anyways. I'm downloading my first map, the Animal Testing Facility, (A .zip map) and cannot figure out for the life of me how to download 7zip. ;-;

I have an older version of Windows /I'm working on figuring out WHICH version/ and therefore do not know which, if any, version of 7zip to download.

Anyone have any suggestions/tips on figuring out my Windows version/other zipping/unzipping programs? :?  Do I even *need* a zipping/unzipping program to download a map?

Hello there, Jennifer. No need to worry you posted this in the right place ;)

I know finding what version would suit your computer can be a pain, can you tell me what windows system you're running? I'll be happy enough to try find the right version for you :)

I personally would prefer WinRar over 7-zip when it comes to programs that zip/compress and stuff, you could try using that if 7-zip doesn't work out.

@Ingredient: Heh, that's good. /I post in the wrong place ALL THE TIME
Unfortunately I don't know what system I'm running. I'll be poking around on Google and such, and if I figure out which system I'll update this thread immediately. :3
I've heard WinRar only works on .rar files? :?
@Thierry: Alright, thank you! I'll go see if it works. :3

WinRar works with both .rar and .zip plus loads more files ;) The oldest version of Windows I can think of that would run Feralheart would be Windows 2000.

Does your desktop look something like this:

@Ingredient: Really? Hmm... Then perhaps I should try WinRar? I dunno. -shrug-

No, though I have seen that before. This is a screenshot of my Start tab, ignore the big black box. /I put that there./ x3

EDIT: Oh dear. It got... squished.

Ah! That would be Windows XP I believe. Not that old I don't think cx I should probably mention about WinRar is that it's not free, instead you get a 30 day free trial, otherwise search Google for some free versions xD I would suggest watching this youtube video on downloading/installing ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIxMwBbCkoc

If the video doesn't work maybe search Google or youtube for "WinRar for Windows XP" in case you find something else :) The only reason I'm suggesting WinRar is because not all maps are in .zip format, some are in .rar. So if you download 7-Zip you won't be able to open the .rar files ;)

@Ingredient: Ah, that'd be a great help, thank you~ :3  /Windows XP, hm? Thanks~ :) /
Wait, not free? I thought the version that FH suggested in the map-downloading page was free. Maybe I'm just crazy? Ah well, I'll poke around Google again.
-goes to watch video-

EDIT: Since WinRar is, infact, not entirely free, I've decided to go with 7zip, which apparently can open .rar as well. :3 However, a quick question about that, for Windows XP;

How do I know which to download, the '32-bit x86' or the '64-bit x64'?? -headdesk-

@Ingredient: It turns out I own a 32-bit computer, thank you for all of that~

7zip is now successfully downloaded and I shall download my map(s) in the morning.

Thank you again, Ingredient~! I couldn't possibly have done this without help, so I own my thanks to you! :D
