Failed to Export Preset-Solved
« on: February 12, 2013, 11:05:01 pm »
I've used presets before, but I had to uninstall and re-install my game recently, and now it's not working. I downloaded a preset on here and went to export it. When it went through everything, the box came up saying "Failed to export Preset." Help?!

EDIT: I've figured out the problem. My username has the question mark symbol in it. When a preset gets exported, it makes a .fhp file and they don't do characters like ?. I used my old username and it worked fine. Thanks you guys for all the help =D.

Make sure everything is in the same folder.

For example: Preset_7

Yes, everything is in the correct folder, with the correct number and information. It shows up fine on the screen and I can mess around with it in the default map, it just won't export for me to use in the game.

I think that your preset material file was replaced in the preset file, and now there are different file names. Check that everything is the same, and that none of the presets are doubled right now.

Yes, it is all as it should be. I even went and tried to export one of the default presets that I have never messed with and it didn't work.

First off, do you still have the presets in the preset folder that you exported before? Having doubles might be an issue. (Not the my_presets, the presets)

No, the 'presets' folder is completely empty besides the 'Read Me' file. I did what I did with the free presets I downloaded before and exported fine. It was Doctor Flob's Timber Wolf and the White Wolf that I downloaded. I only put the Timber Wolf in the file since I didn't want to use the other just yet.

Mind just PMing me the material file? I could take a look at that fast, just to check everything.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this problem Tardis. :( But after reading what the others have posted I'm really not sure what to suggest. I've tried exporting these presets from my own preset exporter than they seem to be doing fine.
If you can't fix the problem Delay wrote this is a preset issues thread that is sort of like a temporary solution:

//3) Messed up Preset Exporter
So, you are probably lookin' here because issue #1's solution did not work. Well, I'm here to tell you why that reason is.

You have a problem with your exporter. This was proven whenever I managed to export and see someones preset just fine, while when they exported it, no one else could see it.

So far there is not a known fix to the exporter; I'm told that reinstalling does not help.

But what you can do is, send a trusted friend all of your textures and your .material for your preset, and have them go to their log-in, type your username in, then go to the preset maker and export it. This will export it with your username. Now, they will send you the file, and then other people will be able to see it.

The ONLY reason no one else would be able to see it even after this process, is because they have a shot exporter too.

Okay, thanks for all of your help. I have a friend that may be willing that for me.
