Re-texturing objects?
« on: February 27, 2013, 10:51:03 pm »
I don't know where to put this.... but...... can someone teach me how to re-texture an object? for example, a grass texture on  the plateau mesh (not that I would ever do that XD). Do you need blender? Or make a new material file? Would appreciate some help :3

You don't need blender for it ^^. Here you go try out this tutorial :3 (Although it talks about changing rock textures you can use the same steps for whatever object you're trying to retexture. So just replace the word rock in that tutorial with whatever object it is you're trying to retexture and follow the same steps) :

Hope that helps :)

If you want to place a grass texture on top of the plateau (like the hanging islands in SkysRim) then a new UV map is required since we don't know the current one for the plateau. Blender probably the easiest way to make a new UV map unfortunately, along with re-exporting the mesh with the UV map. I will happily re-export and make a new UV map for you to draw over.

Once you've made the new image then all you need to do is go to the link Lord Suragaha has posted :)

(sorry for double posting) but how do you make a copy of the mesh, and have 2 different textures on the same meshes?

Requires a program like Blender and you need to know how to "map" textures in the program. It's not easy to explain, it takes time and practice to understand how to do it.

As I said in my earlier post, I can make a new UV map for the mesh so you can colour it with GIMP or whatever so it can have multiple colours/textures.
