Map Maker Problem
« on: August 10, 2013, 02:50:50 pm »
Okey, so I have been following a tutorial on how to make a map(Not too experienced with making one) and have gotten up to getting my height map and mask into the game. Anyway, I go into to map maker and put in the name of my height map in, but it says it can not be found, and my mask doesn't work it goes all weird. They are both saved as png to my desktop and I haven't seen anything about putting it in a specific folder, I have gone over the tutorial a lot but I can't see anything that I did wrong. I am starting to think that it has something to do with my FH, but I first wanted to ask to see if anyone had a solution for me c: I have searched 3 pages of this part of the forum and I haven't seen my problem and I know there will probably be simple reason, but thank you too anyone who can help me ^^

Are you sure it's grayscale, 512X512 or 513X513 and no layers? The height map?
For the mask check the last two options I had too for it. And they're both .png, right?

Yes it is grayscale, 513x513 and no layers. When I saved it the layers merged on the mask, is that right? And yes, both png.

Merging the mask allows the image to use transparency, that's why it's going all 'weird'. You need to flatten the image then save as a .png image~

For your terrain mask you need to make sure that you open up your height map (Settings on RGB colour) and use these colours:

R - 255, 0, 0. (The main terrain texture for the map)
G - 0, 255, 0. (The second terrain texture in your map)
B - 0, 0, 255. (The third terrain texture in your map)

For the terrain map you can use new layers, but you must flatten the image once saving it, don't merge it.

I used to have a problem with my heightmap before somebody told me this:
Don't make a new picture to make a heightmap but open up defaultTerrain in the 'default' folder and paint on that.
I have tryed that but it still can not find it :c Thank you though.

I made a new height map and mask, I flattened the mask when I was finished and exported to .png, and it still did not work? I was wondering if it was because when I double clicked on both my height map and mask they open up to GIMP? Besides that I might try re installing FH to see if that will work.

Don't worry now ^^ I got them both to work, I uninstalled FH then re-installed it, It couldn't find them at first but turns out I had to place both my terrain and mask in the FeralHeart>exports. Thank you for all your help though C:
