     Polaris watched the young wolf slowly step out of the bush. It's tail was in between his legs. Cocking his head in confusion. Why was the wolf afraid of him? The wolf could kill him instantly if he just flew down to the ground.

Sooty glanced up at the owl, then took off running again.

     The spotted owl blinked as the wolf fled. Glancing upward he noticed the sky was beginning to turn orange. Lifting his wings he drifted up above the pines again. Polaris searched for the current so h could follow it back to where his forge was. He'd need to go out this early to make it back before the end of the night.

Sooty slowed to a walk. It didn't seem the owl was pursuing. He wondered if it even knew he was a defenseless pup on the ground. He hoped not. He turned around and began to walk even slower back to the MacDuncan camp.
