Regarding the Map Maker
« on: September 14, 2013, 03:57:54 pm »
Hello. I wonder if anyone can help me with something regarding the Map Maker?

Basically, I would like to know how to get objects from maps which you have previously downloaded to appear in the Map Maker so that you can use them yourself. All of the maps I have at the moment are public, so I assume I have permission to use the objects from these maps for my own maps. So far I have managed to get a texture from a downloaded map to appear in the Map Maker, but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to place the .fho files in order for them to appear as objects for use in the Map Maker. Does the Map Maker only accept certain file extensions? One of the files I am trying to make appear is named "AudioSystem.fho", from a disco-themed map that I downloaded a couple of months ago. I have tried putting the file in the "my_objects" and "Miscellaneous" folders respectively, closing my file manager and re-opening the Map Maker to see if it made any difference, which of course it didn't. I also checked the Map Maker section in the Manual on the website but could not find an answer. I am using a computer with Windows 7, if that's of any relevance.

Thank you for reading, and if you know how to fix this then please let me know as soon as possible. Also, is there a thread/page where I can learn in detail about the more technical side of FeralHeart, to make things easier in the future? I am a self-confessed computer geek and I am familiar with quite a bit of FeralHeart's technical side, but as I have only been playing this game for under a year I still have a lot to learn and would like to know more.

I believe you'd have to download the items separately and place them in the correct folders for them to work... For example, if you downloaded 'Arathi Detail' you'd have to export the .ZIP file and place the item textures into: Local Disk (C:) > FeralHeart > Media > Objects > My_Objects

After that, you start up FeralHeart and select: Tools > Object Maker
Find the item pack you installed, click it and then click 'Export'

Once that's done, head off to map maker and you'll find them in the Objects tab under the original item pack name... T'is how I've always done it so there may be a much quicker way around it, though I doubt it... But you never know xD

You can also add the items from other packs into one of your own by simply creating your own folder in the Object Maker. Just Save it into a custom pack rather than one already available.

Thanks SO much for replying so quickly! Unfortunately, I tried your method and it didn't work for me. This is because the files I am trying to make appear in the Map Maker are just .fho files, so there is no way for me to obtain the textures separately as far as I know. They also came as part of a map I downloaded rather than an item pack. Examples of some of these files include Buildings.fho, FastFoods.fho and SetOfWalls.fho. When I try adding them to folders like my_objects or Miscellaneous they just don't appear on the list of other objects like Structure1, and every time I try to export the file by typing its name and group in the Object Maker I get an error message saying it failed to export from that group.

You need to download the file separately...  You can't get the object files you need from downloaded maps, you need to find the object download link on the FH site or dA etc.
Hope you find the objects you want! ;D

What Quai said xD I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in my original post:

Reading it now, I can understand why you may have been a little confused o.o ~ If you head back into the forums, go to:
FeralHeart Creations > FeralHeart Addons & Mods > Mesh's

You should be able to find some there, if not, you can always 'Request a Mesh' c: ~ Once you have the Object meshes downloaded, follow my previous instructions ^.^ I'd be happy to help you further if you throw me a PM <3
