Screenshot Editing Confusion >:O

Hullu there floofies. I have a question for you all that might be kinda...impossible to answer. I want/need to take a screenshot of some characters. However, these characters are related, and I want it to be one big picture of them. I really want to take pictures of them, and make it look like a big group photo. Unfortunately, I do not have photoshop installed on my computer, nor will my parentals buy me it. I DO have Gimp, though I'm not sure how that would help. I really want to do this with my characters. I do not want to make it a 'collage', though that's what it might have to come to :/. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys know a free program that lets you do this kinda stuff, OR if Gimp has some way to do it. Sorry if my question makes no sense XP. Any sort of advice is greatly appreciated.
