Re-texturing?
« on: October 28, 2013, 09:31:59 pm »
I post here to much.

Anyway, I have some questions on retexturing.....
1- Ya know how there are multiple textures for rocks? How can I make my own items like that- able to accept more than one texture?

2- Can I retexture the Cave celing? Ya know, when your making a map and click "No Sky" or whatever? Can I re-texture that? And how would I do it without replacing the celing with the new texture(like above)?

Hope that made sense.
Quick response would be nice.

1. That's an easy one. :D  If you go into your Feral Heart folder, open media, then objects, then rocks. You'll notice there will be different texture files (like you said) /and/  more importantly, Mat files to go with them. So, all you need to do is open object maker on Feral Heart, pick the object you would like to retexture, go to where it says "rockMat" and just change the name. So if you wanted to turn a rock to the reddish texture, for example you would have it say "rockMat4" and then click update (if it does not change automatically) and it should turn reddish. but make SURE you save it under a new name and a new object group, DONT overwrite it/save it under the same object and object group name, change them both. Otherwise, you may end up accidentally changing the texture of EVERY rock in the game to that texture. Saving under new names will ensure that you dont.

If it only part of it changes properly and the other part stays the same, it just means you selected only one piece of the rock and you just need to select that other un-retextured piece, do the same thing and boom, done. ^_^

2. This one is a little harder but yes its very possible. You need to open up your structures folder [I think its in objects] and copy BOTH the ceiling texture file AND the ceiling mat file. This is a little tedious as it requires the names/spelling to be perfect but, if you want to have a new ceiling you need to get a texture [either your own or from the game's texture folder] and name it something like.... I dont know, ceilingmochaTex (Just an example). rename your copied ceiling mat file to the same thing BUT leave off the "Tex" part. Then open up the mat file in notepad and change both "CeilingMat" to "ceilingmochaMat" AND also change where it says "ceilingTex.jpg" to "ceilingmochaTex.jpg"
But REMEMBER. Your file types need to match, meaning if it says your file is a jpg in the mat file, you need to save your texture file you made as a jpg also. If you save it as a png, your ceiling is going to end up textureless/white.

Hope that helps, let me know how it goes ^_^
