Aye, well...

For those of you who may be wondering, there is a reason why this thread has remained open for so long, due to its relevance to General discussion (which we've locked many discussions on in the past due to the high tension and drama that tends to surround them, with nothing getting done in them). We'd seen it the day it was posted, and have been monitoring it closely. But why hasn't it been locked, you ask?

It's mainly because this thread is very borderline in its original topic--but not so bad that it needs immediate locking. It's close enough to the General discussion to be locked, but we don't want to lock everything that even whispers the word if we don't have to. (We actually don't like doing that.)
The question is not "Why was General removed?" or "Should Gen be given back?" like it has been in the past. Instead, the question is, "Do you remember when we were like that, with everyone still upset, and does it still ever really cross your mind?"

This said, it's a tricky one, but for now I think we're going to let this one remain open for now, so long as the discussion remains civil (and doesn't deteriorate into a "WAHH GIVE IT BACK" crying session, because that's old material, stirs up negative feelings, and it's off-topic to the original post if you read closely).
As for my personal take.. No, I never really forgot about it, though sometimes I find myself being thankful that we don't have people abusing such a far-reaching chat (Fluorite and South Pole in particular). The only times I do miss it is when I'm sitting there, watching RPs try to advertise (it's a challenge no matter what), since they weren't the ones that deserved an extra challenge for gaining new members. Just as well, it also makes advertising events (like the RP day, or FH parties, etc.) less direct. So I understand, and it does cross my mind on occasion.

One other reason I think it might've been received so poorly, is simply because we already have a game that hasn't been updated in over two years. What functions we do have are limited because of this, and the fact that something had been taken away due to its repeated abuse over the years (rather than given something new) will almost always spark someone to be unhappy about it. It sounds materialistic when you think about it (you know, the whole "eww the game works they should just be happy with THAT" nonsense), but that's often how gaming works. People like to have new functions, and will likely lash out when something is taken away. FH in particular is no exception, and the reaction was probably augmented by the fact that any "new" content or functions are not necessarily in the foreseeable future.

After the backlash, though, and the initial shock of it, it gave the community a chance to settle down and get back to life as usual. Fears of RPs not being successful have died down considerably, and most of us have seemed to adapt without it. This said, it wouldn't be surprising if someone had found themselves relaxing, now, even if you do have to be a little creative with your advertising.

I remember General when I first joined, back when the word Role-play was alien to me. I stopped playing for a long time and when I came back this January, General was no more, so it didn't bother me too much. I remember all the chatting that went on, and how so many RP's were advertised on there. I do remember how many Warrior Cat RP's there were, I guess they always have been around. Also how many spammers there were, so annoying!    I do wonder what it was like the day General was removed, I imagine a bunch of wolves/cats running around, freaking out, and a small group of others laughing like crazy at the sight.

I was only on FH for a month before it was gone, so I didn't really miss it! I didn't mind it being gone, and still don't. So it quickly became normal from me

I've been here since 2011 in-game, so yeah each time someone mentions Gen-gen I get hit with nostalgia. I think that gen-gen was something better to use, since the movies cut off the text if you put too much in, so yeah.

I never did much on General chat so I'm fine with it being gone, it seems less cluttered and wrecked now in my opinion. The only reason I liked General chat was for the random conversations people can start.

Oh my, I nierly forgot! I have been playing IT from the start, and then feralheart from the verry first days on my old account. I miss it, but to be honest, I kind of like it how it is now. 

I mean, general had spammers all over...
