I Need Help With Height Map Making

I created a height map and mask, exactly 513x513 and both of them in the correct modes. So I booted up FH, entered the terrain name, and FH crashes. I kept renaming the files, making no grey showed in the mask, trying over and over, 'till I basicly passed out. I mean, WTF is going on?

Yes all you have to do is save your terrain into the terrains folder and once you go into the map maker to load it you have to type in the exact name you saved it with counting caps and spaces. If it's not appearing it's because you must be typing the name in wrong or you didn't save it. Double check the file that it's in the right location and then type the exact name in the map maker:

It is in the terrains folder, as it should be, and I typed the name correctly.

For the heightmap, did you use more than one layer? Also, what program were you using to make this?

I used about 2 for the terrain, and 5 for the mask, but I saved them as .png at the end. And I used Gimp.

Merge all of the layers so there is only one for both the mask and the terrain. If there's more than one, game crashes.
Also, make sure there's no alpha channel.
