Map Maker...Dun dun duuun
« on: October 02, 2014, 05:55:16 pm »
Ok, so I looked around the forums and did everything it says to do, no luck.

What happens is I create my height map, and go to type it in on the FH map maker, then when it's done, I do my usual "enter" to get it to load.  It just stops working.

What I have:

A GIMP .png that is 513x513
Grayscale
One Layer
It's called RiversMapTerrain.png

Be sure that there is no alpha channel. Open up the height map and masks in your art program and remove the alpha channel then save and it should work just fine.

Ok, I found what you mean, and when I deleted it, saved it, and replaced it, it still crashes the game. O_O

I've found a thread about a similar problem.

http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=48305.0

Are you sure that it's:
All one layer
Has no alpha channel
In the terrains folder (FeralHeart/Media/terrains)
Named: MAPNAMETerrain.png

Well that's weird... Are you sure that the map isn't overly huge or that you don't have anything that could cause too much lag?
In a lot of the answers, I also saw that most people recommend the use of simple brushes.

I'm using the brushes that come with 2.8.14 and the map is 513x513.
There's not a ton of detail, I can provide a picture if you want.

Most likely some sloppiness or rushing through when it comes to layers, alpha mask or just general picture properties of your terrain picture, there's not really much else to go on.

I'd honestly suggest checking up on a tutorial that clearly explains how you create a heightmap picture, it could be healthy so if you got the time take a shot at this one(I guess you are using PS or Gimp:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTO8tyhSQPU

If you still have issues, open your finished heightmap .png picture in your photo editing software. Save it down as a .jpg picture. Load the .jpg picture that you just saved that still is the heightmap, and turn it back into a .png(make sure it's the right size), then try to load your "new" .png instead.

Some people have had this picture in the past, and it usually leads to them just using the wrong properties/preferences for their .png pictures, causing the game to crash.

Did this and it worked like a charm!  Thanks, Red, and all of you who tried helping!
