Feralheart.exe has stopped working
« on: October 04, 2014, 04:44:26 am »
I know that this question has been asked numerous times, but I believe my case is different. FeralHeart worked fine for about a day, and then, whenever I started playing, it would go to the page where you pick your rendering subsystem, and once I selected it, It would go to the black screen, and then the window would pop up- Feralheart.exe has stopped working. I tried looking for particle mishaps, deleting all folders about FH and redownloading, changing the subsystem, even trying Windows Vista and 7. (I have an HP Ultrabook and Windows 8.) Once, I got lucky, I guess, and I was actually able to play, but then the problem returned the next time I tried to log on. Any other ideas? ???

Are you sure your firewall isn't blocking the game?
Sometimes an anti-virus program blocks the game, thinking it's a virus. Go into the anti-virus settings pannel and check if feralheart is blocked. If it is, unblock it, and set it so it doesn't stop the game anymore.

I once found a way for my friend since he had the same problem. I just closed every other program on his coputer and started up feralheart. Try closing all of the programs/apps/files on your computer and then open up FeralHeart. It worked with my friend so I hope it works with you.

 I don't think I have any other advice, and if it doesn't work, I hope you find your answer soon.

Thank you for the advice. I went to my Kapersky Internet Security (The pre-installed antivirus and firewall program) and I saw that FeralHeart had no restrictions, and was completely trusted. So I tried to run it, both as an admin, and not as one, without any other programs on. It still didnt work. I tried the particle _1 _2 thing, and saw one shrub/leaf texture with a _1, so I deleted it. The game still would not run. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I've been having the same problem for about 2 weeks now. I've done everything that others have suggested and it still wont work. I have a Dell with Windows 8.1 and everyone has said it should work fine but my game hasn't worked for a couple weeks now. My old laptop, an HP with Windows 7, fell and broke so I had to get a new one. Ever since I got my laptop it hasn't worked at all and it's doing exactly what you said yours is doing. :/

Hey Captain! It would be best if you made your own help thread, this way you can start off from scratch with the issues you experience (especially since this thread has been quiet for several weeks).

Either way, I believe the issue for both of these is a matter of finding the best rendering subsystem for you guys. I know you'd mentioned trying this before, but try checking it again--sometimes they just switch back to the original OpenGL for no real reason (or vice versa).
To do so manually, follow these steps:
1.) Open your FH folder.
2.) Open the ogre.cfg file with Notepad.
3.) Replace the first line with Render System=Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem
(Or, alternatively, if it's already at Direct3D9, change it instead to Render System=OpenGL Rendering Subsystem
4.) Save, and try opening FH again.

Sometimes it helps just to double-check which system it's got you running under when it acts up like this. Hopefully it'll help you out, dear!

Since you already deleted the particle glitch, that shouldn't be the standing issue. You can try changing your rendering system or re-installing the game. If you choose to re-install, delete the entire folder(after backing up presets, maps, etc.) and download the normal setup.

Rendering System Tut :
How To Change Your Rendering System

In this little tutorial, it will show you how to change your rendering system in-game and not. Some examples from others may be found, but will be in the Works Cited giving proper credit to the original creator.

Changing Your Rendering System In-Game & At The Main Menu
Game not opening up? Sometimes the main cause is the rendering system lagging the application out causing a crash, or the rendering system being to strong for your computer to handle. The easy solution below will include step by step what to do, and how to perform it correctly, hope it can be helpful <3

Quote

Right click the game icon on your desktop and select "Properties"
then click on "Compatibility and follow the instructions in the image above.
When you reach the dropdown box, select the format you are using~
Finally, click "Apply" then "OK".
As the image and quote above say, find your desktop Feral Heart icon, right click and go to 'Properties', after you have done this click the tab saying 'Compatibility' and use the dropdown menu and select what windows program your computer is running off of. After you have done that, click 'Apply' and then 'Ok'.

If the solution above dosn't help, refer to the tutorial below.

Quote
Render System=Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem
[Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem]
Allow NVPerfHUD=No
FSAA=0
Floating-point mode=Fastest
Full Screen=No
Rendering Device=Monitor-1-AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
Resource Creation Policy=Create on all devices
VSync=No
VSync Interval=1
Video Mode=1280 x 800 @ 32-bit colour
sRGB Gamma Conversion=No
[OpenGL Rendering Subsystem]
Colour Depth=32
Display Frequency=N/A
FSAA=0
Full Screen=No
RTT Preferred Mode=FBO
VSync=No
VSync Interval=1
Video Mode=800 x 600
sRGB Gamma Conversion=No

Copy and paste this above and overwrite your 'ogre.cfg' file, then hit 'Save'. Once you have done this, click your Feral Heart desktop icon and run the application. If it does open, go to 'Options' on the main screen and click 'Rendering Subsystem' under the 'Video' tab and change it to 'Direct3D9' then relaunch Feral Heart. If it does not open, either try re booting your computer or referring below.

How to Change Your Rendering System
~Windows 7 and 8~

Method number 1~

First, go into C: > Feralheart. If you look at the FH main folder, you will see a flie called:
'orge.cfg'
Click it, and open it with 'NOTEPAD'.

Look at the first two lines in the orge.cfg file. That is where you change your rendering system.

If you followed everything that was typed and the instructions in the pictures, you should have successfully switched your rendering system.

Method number 2~

Turn on FH!
On the main screen, you will see this:

Click options, and go to video. Click 'Rendering System.'

Then just simply switch your rendering system.

Note that sometimes method 2 doesn't awlways work- That's why I listed the orge.cfg file first. ^^

Good luck! Hope this helped those who don't know how to change their rendering system!~

This quote mostly explains so, yeah, follow that and you should be a'okay!
