Can I do this without screwing anything up?
« on: January 18, 2015, 01:04:07 am »
Hey guys,

I wanted to use the fish from the FeralHeart 2014 Holiday Party as an item for characters. First, where do I copy the files to? Second, can I actually do this without screwing anything up and having to re-install the game as a result?

Thanks,
Blu

The mesh file I think is a part of a mesh pack which I will link below~ But yes, I do think you can turn it into an item, once you rig the item to the character to move with them and things like that. It is sometimes easier talking to someone like Ruby, shes good with that kind of stuff ^^ But, turning it into an item will not mess up your game.

Thanks, but I meant how exactly do you turn it into an item? I can't rig or do anything involving 3D modeling, and I don't want to download any more stuff at the moment. Can't I just copy the files into an item folder?

You need to move the .mesh, .material and images of the item into the Feralheart>> Media >> Items folder.

Now comes the more trickier part, coding. You can find a tutorial on that here. There's an items.cfg file in both the Items folder and the Feralheart folder. You need to open it up with a program called Notepad.

Good luck!
Will be inactive due to work and exams.

Thanks, but despite reading the tutorial, I can't find anything specific. Can you break it down for me? Because I have no idea how the heck to do ANYTHING they put down.

EDIT: I simply can't control my rage! -Epic Red-tailed Hawk scream- I just copied the fish files to Items, but how the actual heck do I open it in Notepad? I checked in-game and the item is not there. Can someone help me?

Well, you probably should get permission from the creator/converter of the fish first, unless you plan to only keep it for yourself.

If you have other items installed, I suggest finding one that is in the position you want your item in (for example, if you wanted a hat copy the code of the Christmas hat) and copy the code. Rename it to whatever and try it out in-game, then just continue changing it slightly if it looks off.

If you don't even know what I'm talking out, go into the main FH folder and open items.cfg with notepad. It should be easy enough to figure out what everything is from there.

How do I open items.cfg with Notepad? I went into Notepad and tried to find items.cfg but it wouldn't show up, meaning I can't open it in Notepad. Please help me, or I'll scream!

To open it in Notepad simply right click the file and there should be an option saying something like 'Open in...'. Scroll over that and Notepad should be an option.

There's "Open" and "Send to" but there's no "Open in/with". Gosh, where is this problem going?

Click Open. Open in, Open with, etc. it seems to be different between different computers and files.
