So Now What
« on: February 12, 2015, 09:09:43 pm »
Okay, so I tried downloading GIMP and it ENTIRELY messed up my laptop, so I refuse to do it. Like the Manual says, it needs to be exactly RBG. But I had more questions. (Wow like they ever stop!)

So if you can only have RBG, can you only have 3 different terrains in your map?

Can someone supply me with-

Wait.

I just found an RBG setting on Pixlr! (Wow I need to explore before I ask.)

I still need that first question answered though. And this one:

Do I copy over my grayscale map or no (save as another file)?

If so, what do I call my new terrain mask file?

And how exactly do I color over my grayscale (whether I save it as another file or copy over it or not)?

Can I use different layers?

Thanks! I really want this map and it's costing me a lot (mostly off my own stupidity though). And my conclusion is coloring is HARD.

(And my Norton is still finding threats in my computer .-.)

So if you can only have RBG, can you only have 3 different terrains in your map?

technically, yeah; however, assuming you're new to this, adding more than 3 terrains to your map is rather frustrating and I suggest you don't do it until you have plenty of experience -- I myself don't even do it.

Do I copy over my grayscale map or no (save as another file)?

for your RGB map, no. it needs to be saved as an RGB file therefore replacing your greyscale file would cause the map maker to crash. if you're editing your greyscale map, feel free to copy over the original.

If so, what do I call my new terrain mask file?

honestly, the naming part doesn't matter. you can name it a.png and type it into the map maker and it'll work.

And how exactly do I color over my grayscale (whether I save it as another file or copy over it or not)?

Can I use different layers?

yup! to color over your greyscale map, just create a layer on top of it! however, be sure to delete or merge all layers (only the RGB should be showing) because if you don't, the map maker will crash --- or at least, that's what happens to me.

I hope I answered your questions!!

Yes.. I think I can find someway to do this. Let me try XD

If I have any further questions I'll edit this post.

And thanks, you did. c:

EDIT: Okie one more question.

What happens if one color overlaps a bit? Ex: I'm trying to color all the black into red; it's over-lapping a bit. Will this affect the map?

It's no issue if one colour overlaps the other. I always colour the whole layer red and then just go over areas with green and blue. Using the 'blur' tool will blend the colours together which will create a smooth change from one texture to the other if that helps.

If you were to create 6 terrain textures to your map and they overlapped then they would appear to "glow", strangely.

I'm not sure of any tutorials using Pixlr but if you know how to create different layers and change their opacity then you should be right following GIMP and Photoshop tutorials. Personally though, I would recommend downloading GIMP, it's free and most members here use it.

Here's a video I found on youtube.

Let us know if you're still confused :)

What link screwed up your laptop? If it was supposedly GIMP, the real website to GIMP is here.

Is your computer ok too?

Yeah.. it was just some fake thing..

Yeah it's fine. Slowly over the course of 2 hours Norton popped up threat and closed them, or I located the sources of pop-ups and ads and removed them from my computer. It's fine now c:

so, is the original problem solved? it's not so clear to me.

the actual GIMP program is completely safe btw. you just need to find the real website which i think i gave to you.
