Still Need Help with Map
« on: March 02, 2015, 08:34:07 pm »
Okay, so I uninstalled FH and re-installed it. I still wasn't able to install DirectX; it told me to check my Windows files or something. It wasn't a clear message. I tried it and it still says "FeralHeart.exe has stopped working" and closes as soon as I put in the Height Map. I think it might be the file size of the map or something. Not sure. Need more help with this!

Make sure your heightmap is:

- A Greyscale image, that does not mean using grey colours, it is an actual setting
- One layer
- 513x513 or 512x512
- Saved as a .png image
- No alpha channel
- Saved in your Feralheart >> Media >> Terrains >> MapFolder as mapnameTerrain.png

What program are you using? I know some programs do not have a Greyscale option which is a common cause of the problem.

Will be inactive due to work and exams.

I think all of it is correct except it's called "ZoneTerrian.png": Terrain is spelled incorrectly. Also I used Pixlr Editor to do it; I might be asble to do it in FireAlpaca now that I have it.

GIMP may be a better program. That is what I, and a lot of others use. I'm not sure if the program is the problem but it never hurts to try. It's a free art program and fairly simple to work. Here is the link: http://www.gimp.org/

Actually no. I can't download GIMP for these reasons:
- My Norton JUST ran out (or is about to) and I am NOT RISING IT ON MY LAPTOP.
- I tried downloading GIMP once and it screwed up my laptop anyways.

I will either use FireAlpaca or Pixlr Editor. I'd use Paint but it's all pixels.. no "soft brush". I just get a friend to do the terrain mask.

Do the programs you re using allow an image to be in greyscale mode? This doesn't mean that the image is colored in all grey; no, that is RGB color.

First, if I remember correctly, you've downloaded Gimp off of an illegitimate site, yes? Bad downloads that are not official usually are laced with other malicious programs and removed aspects from the original, official download. As long as you download GIMP from their official site, your laptop should remain perfectly fine, file-wise. I searched if FireAlpaca had a greyscale option, and alas, I had found no direct responses, so I am unsure if it does support greyscale images. I do not use this program myself, and if it does have this option, someone correct me!
If those programs you have used to not have a greyscale option, you will have to download a program that does, or have someone re-make the heightmap for you. I will be willing to make/remake you a heightmap if you PM me all of the information. If you choose to not download a program that does support greyscale images, there's only so much we can do. Good luck!

As for the game unable to find the file, make sure it was placed in Feralheart\media\terrains, and make sure you include the file extension when typing it into the game.

Aye, thanks Alpha. I'm new to using FireAlpaca but I don't think it does.
I did use random gray colors for the HM.
Yes, I was given the wrong link on Google to download GIMP. I should of gone to the direct site that everyone linked me.
I guess I should download GIMP, but I have so many programs I already use.. do you think it'd be easier for me to ask you to do it, or download GIMP?

Ah that much be why it's not working then. :3

Which ever you'd prefer. ;) With a clean new version of Gimp, not only could you make maps yourself and edit them whenever you'd like, but you could make presets and other modifications. By sending me the files/explanation on how you want the heightmap, I can remake it in Photoshop (which does have a greyscale feature). I'd be glad to remake it for you, however in the end, it's your choice.

Damn! That was it? Gosh.

Well, for now I'll just send the file to you via PM. You already made the Terrain Mask, so no problem there.

Thank you for helping me!

But now since I re-installed FH I need to re-install my mod, Aug 22 Markings. Is there a guide anywhere? I forgot how >v<
