Game won't start up.
« on: November 04, 2015, 02:00:03 am »
I just finished a map and exported it. It had particles in it, and I deleted all of the ones that had _0 through _13 (a firefly particle went all the way to there) and it still won't work. It had even more trouble when I tried changing the rendering system to Direct3D9, as it would close even quicker. I didn't delete anything else--and I really don't want to reinstall everything.

Duplicate particle files are often the issue, but they are not the only things that may be causing your map to crash.

-Do you have a heightmap with the map? If so, have you made sure that all of the details are correct? (513x513 size, Alpha Channel lock removed, flattened any multiple layers, set to Grayscale, etc.)

-Your computer may not be able to handle the amount of objects in the map. If you have many meshes placed inside the map, this could be too much data for you computer to handle.

-It's possible that a corrupt object(s) has been placed in the map. This can often cause the game to crash.

There could be other reasons your game is crashing, but let me know if any of these are the case. c:

I'm testing this reply, as it won't submit any.

I tried changing the rendering system, I uninstalled then reinstalled FH, I deleted the maps themselves, I deleted the exports, I deleted the spare particles, I had also done everything your reply said. As far as I know, I did everything possible, and my game still won't work.

Actually... I figured out the problem. And I'm ready to facepalm myself halfway across the galaxy for it.

Turns out the issue WAS a _0 particle. But this particle wasn't in my particles folder, it was in My_Objects.

Oh, I'm happy you've caught it! Sometimes duplicate files can end up in all sorts of places. They can be sneaky sometimes. Since you've found what the problem was, I'll go ahead and lock this up for you. I hope your map works just fine now. c:
