Tumblr is a good picture of what "we" are as people where there's no breaks on anything.

If you're young and your parents aren't very willing I'd suggest maybe trying to get in on something else you might be interested in until you can just go and make that choice yourself to join the site without them being up your neck about it.

As others has mention before there's a lot of great things on there, but also a lot of "bad". If you only look for the good stuff you're going to find it all around that site, but if you're thinking about the less fun stuff and the negativity you will not need to look far. There's so many people out there who use it for pretty much anything, not only a "blog" or cute cat collection. People will say whatever they feel like saying whether it's right or wrong, nice or crude, humane or inhumane. To me tumblr is really just another place on the internet, a place where you get to see the extremes of every angle.

I think you put some good perspective to your own post if you'd re-read it yourself.

I am terrible with coming up with reasons, and I really want a Tumblr,

You want a tumblr but you don't know why. So it just leaves me to think that this is a case of reactance where you want something that you cannot have. It's common that we as people don't like to have our options limited or have others deciding for us, "Wanting what you cannot have". Granted I know that it is harder to argue why you'd want to have a tumblr if you never experienced it fully by being there, but you should still be able to come up with something reasonable as of "why" you'd want one and how it's going to do you better. If you understand why you want something, it's a lot easier to explain it to someone else and get them to understand your perspective.

don't get tumblr

honestly it's not worth it

the site staff suck and the community is garbage
as warkat said, its really not a place to go, there's just to much mumbo jumbo going on there and it spreads to others and turns them toxic as well, i had a tumblr for two days before i up and left that place from all the cringe that is there, but its all how you take it and maturity level etc. if you think you can handle it then good luck but i suppose i wouldn't advise it xD

Also, I notice someone mentioned TUmblr having a 'block' feature- you CAN block things, but only if people tag them, and they still show up when browsing tags, which you pretty much need to do to find new blogs when you first join. So if people dont care (and a lot dont) about tagging things 'NSFW', then you're still going to see it on your dash, and 100% will always see it in the tags. And many people tag if differently, #NSFW, #N-S-F-W, #notsafeforwork #not safe for work etc etc. It'll be a while before you have enough tagged blocked to not see things, assuming people actually tag them.

And like I said, fandoms are also full of drama. Recently thought of an example- I received anonymous threats because during the WC debate, I said it was wrong to exclude older members of the WC fandom. Basically, I'm 16, and the WC fandom has decided, at least in many parts of tumblr, that people will in the 'fandom' aged 16+ are predators and it's inappropriate to rp/draw warrior art.

Yep. But, i also enjoy some parts of the fandom, so it's 50/50, but for a middleschooler or someone younger it's harsh. (and im not sure if it's still like that, but I remember some aspects of tumblr being sort of nasty towards younger users)

I'm confused...do you have your own computer? Why don't you just get one on your own and tab out if they come close to seeing it? Parents sometimes are protective more so because they don't know any better than to actually benefit you. Tumblr wasn't around when they were your age, so if you just tell them it's a platform were you choose what goes on your feed and what doesn't I'm sure they'd let you get one. There's nothing bad about it except for a bad community I guess but you can just block problem people.

Personally, I don't think it's always good to be hiding things from your parents and stuff... I'm guilty of such (And for no reason at that), I will admit, I just don't want to encourage the habit too much even here. XI

Although, I see your reasoning. Parents can be kind of overprotective, you know? But eh... It's for a reason, and it's good to be cautious with.

And, to TheChillFangirl... (Can I call yew Chilly? |D)

I don't want to be riding off on other people's opinion's and stuff, but I kinda agree. When you look up some tags on Tumblr, or find some people that may post NSFW stuff (You may not even notice until you go deep enough into their blog, unfortunately, or it pops up later. I speak from experience.) you might not be so happy with the result. If you're careful with what you do on Tumblr, like if you're not doing much on there, I don't think I even see what the fuss is about haha. Maybe you don't even need a Tumblr, y'know? At least until you get to be a little bit older, maybe. I don't know.

Red brought up a good point about that, about thinking of why you really want one. 'Cause some stuff on there may not even be worth it. ;u; Depends on what you wanna do.

that's literally the best way to get caught
ok storytime

like if i am watching netflix or w/e(or playing don't starve), instead of doing my homework, i'd get caught.
even when i thought i was being careful, it'd end very quickly.

Also... Pretty sure bending the truth and leaving out a few facts is Lying.
I'm very certain that Chill would not want to lie to their parents just to get onto a website.

as for the community being the only bad things

why do you need your parents to make it for you? Just make an account yourself... it's free, so I don't see why it'd be an issue.

Depending on the age of the person, it could pose an issue.

She wants her parents permission to get this, so if they say it's okay it's okay.
If it's not, it's not.

Listen hon, why want something if you don't know why you want it? Tumblr is not a friendly place from what I am told.

So, I've been asking for a Tumblr account (yes.  I don't have a Tumblr.)

I don't even have a tumblr and I can manage just fine without one. Maybe it's best you stick with more 'kid-friendly' sites rather than going to a site with so much 'toxic'. Trust me, you can find better things do than tumblr.  :)

funny thing is people keep saying tumblr is "bad" but in all honestly no its not. If someone is problematic... unfollow them. It's simple as that.

You only see posts from people you follow, so don't follow problematic people. Not that hard tbh.
