Multiple custom maps.
« on: April 22, 2016, 04:07:39 pm »
Hello!

So, it's been quite a while since I've played. Decided to try some new maps, but ran into an issue. At least two of the maps I've downloaded share the same exact filenames, such as MyPlants.fho

How do I go about installing these?
Would I just let the newest version of the file, even if they're from separate makers, take precedence and leave the older ones out?
Do I keep one file and add the contents of the others to it? (i.e. one MyPlants and modify it to include every other MyPlants)
Would I allow automatic renaming? (i.e. MyPlants1.fho)

I attempted to just keep each map and their respective files in their own folders inside Exports, but that seems to have not worked.

Replacing the current file with the new file in exports is very important, or else other issues may arise later on. If you wish to keep the current file (the one that will be replaced) you could always copy the file and save it in a back-up folder (somewhere not actually inside of the FH folder) in case you want to change back.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I'm not sure that answers my question though.

If I am replacing them... Let's say Bob made his MyPlants in 2014. Pam makes hers in 2015. Even though they are completely separate makers, do I use Pam's for the sole reason hers is newer?

As already stated , it's entirely up yp you whether you want use either or of the files. If a certain file just happens to not work, it's best to save a backup copy so you can switch out with a more...workable one. It's just how you would see the certain material in the map.

Keep on traveling across this road called 'Life.'

Actually, it does 'ave an effect on the maps! One could 'ave different meshes in different orders, making the plants show up in one map, but not in an older map that ye've downloaded. There's really no way 'round this, however. Unless one of the map makers is willing to create a new object group and r'place all the objects inside the map.

Tmw you planned a ten minute nap but instead took a whole year.

Thank you everyone! And thank you Enoki for explaining what effect files like that have. I reckon I should keep a copy of each map's specific files and just switch them out depending on which map I'm using.

My question has been successfully answered, thank you all again!
