WolfSpeakers' Opinion of Us?
« on: April 30, 2016, 10:15:07 pm »
Hey guys! Recently, a thought crossed my mind. The wolfspeakers I've asked to kindly tone down their fanciness so that I may understand them have replied with things along the lines of "But then I won't feel as literate." So that's gotten me thinking. What does the wolfspeaking community think of us? Wolfspeakers are bashed, labeled as confusing and illiterate, and straight up harassed for their style of roleplay. As a community, we should be accepting of them. Now, we always hear the opinions of the common roleplayer, who does not use this language and are baffled by it. What I want to hear is the opinion of the wolfspeaker.

What does this hated part of the community think of us for hating on them? What do they feel when they are asked by a non-wolfspeaker to explain what they have just typed? What happens when they enter a group and start roleplaying; are they harassed? So many questions that I'd love the answers to so we can all understand the wolfspeakers a bit better.

If you actively wolfspeak, or have in the past, please answer some of these questions for me! I'm genuinely curious as to your experience roleplaying.

I'd just like to clarify that wolfspeakers ARE accepted here, but it is just advised that whoever wants to extend their roleplaying vocabulary, they don't do it how wolfspeakers do it because of the fact that usually absolutely no one can understand a word they say.
Other than that though there doesn't actually seem to be a real opinion on "us". As non-wolfspeakers I suspect that we're just viewed as illiterate newbies who are still in the progress of learning about what other words there are for eyes and tail and head, haha. Nice topic!

I don't think all of them are bad though & I don't see anything wrong with the language because I find it interesting ( IMO ). And of course, everyone views things differently so that's another thing. Lol.

I myself have no problem with Wolfspeakers. I just don't understand them at all. But I bet they think of us nonwolfspeakers as illiterate savages. xD

I have no problem with wolf speakers, and I think that is quite unique.

I don't have a problem with them, either.

I just get headaches whenever I try to read wolfspeak ;-; (I wish I didn't...)

As a former wolfspeaker myself, I got to say that back in the day, it was the "cool" thing to do. If you weren't "literate" or a "wolfspeaker" back then then you were labeled as a lesser role-player or a noob. Now that was incredibly unfair, but I guess that's just how things work. Nowadays I see quite a lot more semi-literate or not as strict role-plays. My personal opinion though, is that there is no standard on what makes a good role-player. If people enjoy one liners then let them RP that way, if they enjoy paragraph style, let them rp that way, and if they enjoy wolfspeak, then let them RP that way. Really, it's quite fascinating how we come to decide as a community what is the "proper" way to role-play, when really, RP is a very general and unrestraining activity, as it comes in all shapes and forms. There's really no right or wrong way to do it, as long as you have fun becoming your character and interacting with others through diverse stories. Very interesting topic though~ c:

Well, back when I was a wolfspeaker in the old country of 2014, people who didn't wolfspeak weren't hated or thought of as illiterate, or at least not by me and my roleplay buds. They were just different and we didn't roleplay with them as much due to arguments. We still got along with non-wolfspeaking people, with a few exceptions, but in no way did we think ourselves better.
Even now, no roleplaying style is better than another, and there's nothing wrong with Wolfspeakers as a general group.

Golly, I used to have a big problem with wolfspeaking... I thought it was the cool thing to do! My RP messages would take up so many messages, it was kinda silly! Now, I've adopted a more simplistic RP style, but I honestly don't have a problem with y'all wolfspeakers! I think it's neat that y'all put so much effort into yer RPing, even if it can be a bit dizzy to read! Keep doin' what yer doin'!

Interesting topic!
When I first joined FH I admit I was totally a wolf speaker. I even went as far as to think lower of those who didn't use wolfspeak. But I've grown a lot since then and honestly? I don't mind wolfspeak at all. Or any sort of RP style for that matter. I don't rp near as much as when I was younger, but when I do, I love rping with the whole 'spectrum' of rp'ers.
