Map Making on Mac
« on: February 20, 2017, 11:43:02 pm »
Hello!
I am a Mac user and I wanted to create maps. I read the Manual and thought "Okay not too hard."
When I went into the file to copy the HeightMap, I couldn't find the height map (waterfall?) to copy. I then tried to just create my own height map from scratch, but whenever I tried to upload it to the mapmaker it said it could not find the file.
Additionally, when I attempted to upload the terrain mask I'd created from said height map, it simply turned the whole map black.
It should also be noted that I used FireAlpaca (which does not have a grayscale option) to create the height map and the terrain mask and then saved both into a random folder. Is it necessary to use Gimp or Photoshop and to save the map/mask into a specific folder?
Please reply. I want to make maps.  :'(
Thanks!

'Allo! I don't think Waterfall is the height map's file name- I could be wrong though.

Anyhoo, even though 'tis not required to use GIMP or Photoshop to make these map files, 'tis required to make the heightmap in grayscale form. Another reason why y'er files may not be working is that ye sent the exported files to a "random folder". x'D Send those files to the terrains folder found in (FeralHeart<media<terrains).

Hope this all helps; best of luck in map making!

Thank you for replying! ;D
I believe I have found a way to make it grayscale, so that should help.
However, I have encountered a new problem. There is no option to save my height map to the terrains folder.
Would it work if I dragged the height map from another folder to the terrains folder?

Yes, ye can drag y'er files to different folders. That should fix the issue.

Thank you!
Also, it will crash if it is not in grayscale, correct? Because this is occurring.

Yes, 'twill. Also be sure that the layers 'ave been compressed into one single layer. I don't know the terms used f'er FireAlpaca, so all I can tell ye is to copy visible and paste onto a new canvas, and overwrite the original file.

Okay, thank you for your help! :D It appears the grayscale on FireAlpaca does not qualify, so I shall have to download GIMP.
Again, thank you! Your reply was very helpful! :D

Okay, I have downloaded GIMP, I finally got it to work, I created a height map, and then when I tried to load it the game crashed. Again.  >:(
It is in grayscale, in a PNG format, in the correct folder, and it still refuses to work.
Help me.  :'(
