I Need to Talk About This
« on: May 01, 2017, 12:27:05 am »
I just want to discuss and defend something here.

Remember in the old days, there were always colorful characters, right? Not realistic, even had wings, and were always creative. Even if they were "bright" I still enjoyed them, heck even my sona, which was my first character on the game was colorful and I still stick with her to this day.

... But in 2016 to now, is it a law to be realistic on this game anymore?

Every time I've played this game recently in The Grounds, I get insulted for being colorful. People claim I'm "bright" or "ugly" even though the colors are definitely not blinding. I'm just colorful, and they complain about "TOO NEON!!!", "TOO BRIGHT!!!" to the point where they insult my character in general even though I'm just minding my own business and not saying anything.

I have realistic characters but I prefer being unrealistic. But apparently if I'm not realistic, that's a crime to most people anymore? Apparently you're not allowed to be different or allowed to have wings or colors to them. Okay that's just silly, there's a reason why all colors are optional in the character creator, guys. I shouldn't be stricted to just being grey or brown.

Is it seriously now allowed to only be realistic or something? I understand if people prefer it, but to the point where they harass others is getting ridiculous. This has happened to me over five times now, even happened today. I get insulted for playing just as a colorful looking character and I don't understand why. I like realistic characters, but unrealistic deserves love too so stop being unfair to all these people, heck even younger players who have colorful characters would also be harassed if they're not careful and this is unacceptable.

Please tell me I'm not the only one out there that likes colorful characters and think this is going out of hand and noticed these things aswell.

I think it's just a case of that everyone uses the words, "Wow, you're way too neon. My eyes are bleeding." as a joke, instead of meaning to insult a player.

I myself personally love unrealistic colour schemes but another factor could just be that everyone has different colour preferences and like to look at different things.

No one is saying you need to be realistic, yes most people prefer it, a lot of people RP realistically now a days so it's quite common to find brown, grey, tan wolves and beige, tan brown lions.
If it is becoming an occurring problem then I suggest you could try and tell people why you look being the certain colour you do and maybe they might start to agree with you more.

The beauty and magic of this game, to me, comes from player individuality. Everyone has their own style of making characters. Everyone has a preference for what they make in a character whether it be really colorful or more earthy tones. It isn't fair for one to insult another for having a character that they wouldn't create or insult a character for looking different from their idea of what is acceptable for a character design. There's a place in this game for all different types of species and characters. There is no limit. Originality is important, because without it, everyone would look the same. Every user should feel comfortable in their own fur and what they want to be in this game. Please don't feel discouraged by what other people may think. Not everyone is as narrow-minded as that <3 You be you.

I'm sorry to hear that you have gone through this ordeal and, seemingly, have been harassed. If the harassment situation gets too out of line, please send in a report, with screenshots as evidence, to a member of staff.

It's a sad thing to see indeed. People on FeralHeart are extremely judgmental anymore. You don't have something about you that they like? Oh, they will let you know and make you feel terrible for it. Best thing to do is just either ignore, do what they say, or just....ya know, find somewhere with more accepting people. Even though that is very difficult...

I am a friend of Balto. At times, we've sat together and minded our own business; whispering while watching the chat flow by. Most of the time we try to find humor out of the local chat but it's recently been pretty desolate.

For quite some time she's been leaning on her realistic characters. Although, I know for a fact she would love to be on the very first character she made in Feral Heart. She was young then so it's full of color just as a young child dreams of. There's so much imagination and history in that character and I'm borderline shocked of why she doesn't play on it more often. Well, that can be answered very easily.

I bribe her into going onto her more colorful characters. It's all good, everything is how it should be. Then, less than an hour in somebody blurts it out. She's too bright, she's ugly, she's burning their eyes, that she's a sparkle-tard and that she's not realistic.

We've been friends for about five years. We met on this very game.

Do I sit there and let somebody tear away at my best friend? Would you? No.

However, in the end, we're to blame. We're told that we're taking it all too seriously and we need to step down and stop arguing. I hate that so much. They keep telling me to take the fight to whisper, well you, know, friendo - Local is dead so would you rather have silence or something to sit back and laugh at? We never get our final say and as much people say, "I'm sorry," do they ever really mean it? Okay, I get it. Not everybody is nice on this game. I'm one of those people. However, is it so much for somebody to keep their mouth shut? We didn't get up to present ourselves and please you so why are we to blame when we try to defend ourselves or our friends.

"It's a stupid thing - just let it go."

Again, Balto has been my shining light in the darkness. She has helped me through everything imaginable. I'm not going to let someone just call her these names. I'm always called "butthurt" or "triggered" for continuing to argue over something "petty", but she's all I have.

- - -

This community has changed a lot. Luckily, there are some good things left out there but it's a bumpy ride all the way through. I can't stop going back to this game because it was apart of my childhood but oh, the members sometimes... I guess we just get bad luck, eh?

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you've been getting. I'll try to weigh in with my thoughts. <3

The realistic vs colorful debate has been going on for quite a long time; the truth is, I don't see it so much a debate to decide which one is better, as much of it can boil down to preference, but it's a reoccurring theme in real life events all over the world. You will always have someone who hates what you enjoy, and you will not like something that somebody else adores-- it doesn't make one better. There will always be a controversy over whose idea is best, and there may even be disputes between trying to persuade someone to simply respect and acknowledge that there are differences, and to be okay with that. However, you will always come across someone who will refuse to look at a subject in another perspective, and sometimes there's simply not much we can do about it. In reality, I feel like it has always been like this-- perhaps other factors have attributed to it becoming more noticable, or even more inflicting, but there was always a time when people joked or disliked the neon or realistic color. Society as a whole seems to be a bit more vocal in modern times (which has good and bad effects), so it's a problem we face over many different platforms, and any interweb game is not much different. There's not a harm in attempting to explain a different point-of-view, in and of itself, but as long as you know what you like, you should hold onto that, because Feral Heart is only a game, and you can get as darn creative as you want to get. c:

I think the "realistic" look is also a bit of a trend; there are trends for quite a few things-- clothing, word usage, likes/dislikes, etc. Not all trends are a bad thing, although this could be partially why you've been getting some backlash for sporting a colorful character. Differences cause people to point them out-- anyone who has ever felt like he has stood out from a crowd will have felt some effect of being different from everyone else (although, we are all different from each other, which contradicts the point a bit). Basically, when it comes to something such as an individual preference of yours, or a color you like, there will always be some sort of negative presence from those who disagree or don't like what you're doing. It doesn't make someone a bad person if they dislike something you do, but that can be taken too far out of an appropriate level, at times. Keep your head up. ^^ I'd probably say that you can find a balance between acknowledging their comments (as opposed to ignoring them; I think it's a popular opinion to try to ignore every negative thing you've been told, but in truth, you can learn a lot about allowing yourself to hear other peoples' opinions. Just keep sight of your convictions. c:) and keeping strong to what you enjoy and believe in. I see it in a personal light, whereas it's easy to generalize a group to hate a color or style as a whole, or to categorize them as having the same agenda, so perhaps that might offer some insight. ^^ I've noticed that people tend to have different reasons for not liking something. Heck, it's kind of a trend in itself to hate against sparklewolves and glittercats, which is a bit of a shame, although oftentimes, I don't see there being any real malicious intent behind it. Sometimes, it's someone who's merely bored or wants to feel a part of the group, even if that means joining the one that brings a negative consequence, which does happen. ^^

Do you. If you love sparkley, colorful characters, go make one. c: There are probably a few people out there who are wanting to do the same thing and are just a little shy.

As Morgra mentioned above, if it's getting to the point of bullying or threatening, please consider blocking the offending user and reporting, if you feel it's necessary. You have every right to state your opinion about something in the chat, but that's not an excuse to personally attack someone.

If you define yourself by the power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess… then you have nothing.

It's not the law.  But so many people have blocked me for having colours.  Seems dumb to me. i don't block people for sitting around with dark black on black with angry scowls permanently set on their face.
The Japanese concept of wabisabi:
The closest concept in english would be 'rustic'
They might have an old thing, one example is a favourite bowl or dish, it's broken, pieces are missing, why fix it?  With gold and pieces from other dishes?
"Because it was my favourite & I like it"

As long as you have fun playing the game, you can play it however you want. NOBODY, can tell you what to do with your character, I hate when people turn to keyboard warriors and try to boss around in a game when it is meant to be fun in theway you wanted to be. This game gives you a feature to design and play the way you love, not follow a specific path, no hunting a specific mob, no doing a specific quest, but instead following your path. It is just dumb to see people saying "You are too unrealistic or too bright" If they want to play with their own rules so be it but no boss anyone around. My wife and I make random characters all the time, I even have a character named Poop and literately has... a preset that's a poop. So? I am not insulting not offending anyone, I made that for pure trollism and I will keep doing even if it makes people triggered. If they want to paint their world with 3 colors they can do it, but I love the rainbow, and a rainbow goldfishy I shall be.

So do not worry too much about these people. If they really had something important to do they wouldn't of been messing with colors and how you do your character. You are the only one who knows how to make them if they want to make a realistic roleplay and join it so be it but nobody can tell you how to have fun

So cheer up and go on.

Yeah, exactly! That's one of the things I liked about this game, people make all sorts of characters in their own style, that seem interesting.

I just don't get why people get so upset about colorful characters. I understand if they dislike them for different reasons, but there's no reason to just say that in people's faces. I'm very sensitive about my characters so it tends to offend me really badly. Heck, someone walked up to me and said "That is one ugly character", even though I was just sitting down saying and doing absolutely nothing, and I nearly just broke down and froze.

But yeah, I'll be sure to send in a report if it ever gets really bad.

It's a sad thing to see indeed. People on FeralHeart are extremely judgmental anymore. You don't have something about you that they like? Oh, they will let you know and make you feel terrible for it. Sadly, that's really true. Once you have a different opinion someone doesn't agree with, boom, a sudden argument. I know it happens a lot online, but it's just so weird for it to happen in this game too, since I'm just so used to being around friendly people; but a lots changed within the community anymore.

However, in the end, we're to blame. We're told that we're taking it all too seriously and we need to step down and stop arguing. I hate that so much. ^ As my good friend said here in the quote, that's what always happens. Most jerks put the blame on us for any argument, when clearly, they were the one starting it in the first place. Some claim they're even "bored", which is just a silly excuse to just insult someone, but I guess that's just how some people are.

I think the "realistic" look is also a bit of a trend; there are trends for quite a few things-- clothing, word usage, likes/dislikes, etc. Not all trends are a bad thing, although this could be partially why you've been getting some backlash for sporting a colorful character. That's a pretty good point. I love both realistic and unrealistic characters and I can understand why people think sparklewolves/glittercats are a bit of a bother since they're known for being very bright or being created in a troll-ish way, but it's a shame a lot of them are hated by people... especially since not all sparkly or colorful characters are "eye-blinding". But as you said,
being realistic is probably a somewhat trend on FeralHeart, which is probably why people see it bothersome.

You are bot alone, Balto. It had happened to me too, but I jut ignored those kind of people. I've never bothered to try and do something about it.

I completely agree, thank you! It's sad people in the game just want to boss others around to create a character a certain way, when really, people are allowed to make whatever type of character they want, colorful or not colorful.
