Maybe I am doing something wrong myself but right now I am working on a mask for a custom map and when I use the mask on the map maker some parts appear black! I do not know what to do to fix this soo I am asking for help.
I am using gimp to do the mask of the map

If it appears black it is the game looking for a texture that doesn't exist. And make sure you are putting the textures in the right folder and make sure alpha channel is off. Also try deleting some spaces in your texture name.

When you set a terrain mask to your map, the 2nd and 3rd options will appear black by default (as is my experience). All you need to do is choose the ground textures for each of them c:
