Clothing Tutorial

Hello there! This is the first tutorial I've made, so... It might not be the best, sorry! Many people have asked me how I make clothing on presets, so I decided to make a simple tutorial of how I usually do it.
Anyway, let's get started!

What You Need


- Some kind of art program, like Gimp or Photoshop. I use Gimp for my presets.
- Feline or Canine UVs. They can be found in FeralHeart\my_presets\reference
- Creativity!




Okay, so the first thing you need is your finished character's design before you start on the clothes. This is obvious, unless your character's body is going to be completely covered in clothing. For this tutorial I simply made a gray colored wolf, nothing too special.




Now we start work on the clothing! I'm going to be making just a simple shirt for this, nothing else. Just draw out the simple shape and fill it in with the base color. Make sure this layer and every other layer from now on is above the bodyshade layer, unless you want your clothes to have fur texture!




This is where things start getting more complex. Details! Add as much as you want; hems, stripes, dots, tears, whatever you want! Make it as simple or detailed as you want!




Once you have everything you want, it's time to shade. Shading makes it all pop out and look more real! It doesn't have to be super complex either unless you want it to look super realistic. Adding folds and wrinkles in the clothing helps it look better too.




The final step is to add a texture to it once you merge all the clothing's layers together. Find any free texture you want to use for it, or make your own. Though if you like how it looks without textures, then go ahead and skip this!




Done! We now have a shirt for our wolf! Of course, you can add a lot more clothing than just a simple shirt like this. You can use these same steps to make some armor, add a jacket over a shirt, make pants, etc. It just requires practice and patience! I hope you all found this useful, I tried my best to explain everything I do. ^^

And, I have a question, how did you make Gimp look so dark? Mine is always on white mode, I didn’t know that you could change colors!

Also, I'm not sure. Honestly all I did was download the most recent version of Gimp, and when I opened it it was already dark like that.
