While I don't really play many online games anymore I have encountered communities that absolutely detested new additions for some reason. I never really saw the reason why since everyone was a probie player at some point on the game, and whether they asked, self tutored, or eavesdropped on conversations to learn the controls doesn't really matter, but hating on someone in a position you yourself were once in their position.

I saw someone mention comparing new players to babies on the hate scale but that isn't...really...accurate. People have their own reasons to have an aversion to young children, myself included [I am incredibly awkward around them and therefore do my best to avoid them] but new players I don't mind. The amount that sometimes drive my patience thin can be a bother, but otherwise, I'm more than happy to talk to them!

As for terms I honestly find the term "rookie" more accurate than anything on an online game. Rookies are new to the fold. Rookies aren't fully experienced. Rookies make mistakes. It's much less demeaning than noob or newbie, as people use those terms in belittling ways at this point.

Even if people used the term "rookie" in a negative light in a game I honestly don't see how it could be a stab at someone because rookies can LEARN, you just have to be willing to be patient and TEACH them how to do things [so long as they're willing to listen and work with you].

Heck were I on FH I'd be a freaking Rookie because I've forgotten all the controls and some of the important keys on my keyboard are broken.

I've never insulted or called someone out for being as you say a 'newbie' but I won't deny I've gotten very frustrated with newer members more than once. And that's usually because of their attitude. New players sometimes aggressively spam whatever chat they are in asking questions until they are finally answered by disgruntled players and it can be very vexing when you're trying to explain how to install things for the hundredth time (like maps for example, which was a very irksome manner when I hosted a Rp that had a custom map a long time ago).

However this is generalizing, as I know there are quite a few FH players that can be a part of the community for a long time without every downloading a map or Modification.  And I know it's important to be as helpful and cordial as you can be because I remember when I didn't know how to do any of this stuff either!

I think it's just the new members that bring a rude/obnoxious attitude with them are the ones we tend to remember more than those who are polite and respectful when asking for help, which is why people start developing assumptions about 'newbies'.

What we do in life, echoes in eternity.
