They say we do not exist.
They say we are a lie.
They say we are a bad dream.
We are not a mere reverie. We are not some fabricated story. But it is our job to make it look like we're little more than a pigment of a child's imagination. We do not reveal ourselves to mere mortals -- we aren't even of their world. At least... we aren't any more. So, little wayward soul, would you have an interest in becoming one of us...
...or risk becoming a Wraith?

The Soul Vampire Society, or SVS, is a brand new literate+ all-species roleplay with a fantasy genre. This roleplay is unlike the scores of realistic roleplays out there -- a haven for all you lovers of oddly-coloured animals, etc. SVS promises to be an engaging roleplay. However, we can only accomplish that with willing & active members. Cast aside your body, dear reader, and free your soul to the spirit world.

We are now open! Our current member goal is fifteen. Also, since I'm incapable of making maps, I am on the prowl for mapmakers. I'll be asking here and there at a slightly later date, but if anyone would like to volunteer, that'd be great.

Remember when I said 'it's our job to make it look like we're little more than a pigment of a child's imagination'? Well, I kinda lied. Our job, as the Soul Vampire Society (SVS), is to round up souls and ferry them to the afterlife. You may be familiar with the terms grim reaper, or maybe even shinigami. To be frank, those are names the mortals have given us. You see, we're actually soul vampires; creatures that are able to absorb the essence of a soul to feed our own. Don't mistaken us for those blood-sucking vampires. We don't like that red stuff. Technically, none of us at SVS even have any of that. I wonder if we even have veins...?
In any case, we're the true-blue soul ferriers. But that's not all we do. We're also hunters, of sorts. Not every soul is compliant, after all. There are plenty that are tied down by one earthly mean or another -- they could be called upon as a tormentor via curses and hexes, or they had a tragic end and are simply unable to see the 'light' (seriously, don't buy that light nonsense -- it's actually one of our agents cloaking his or herself in a halo to make it look like you're going to heaven -- it's what mortals call 'crossing over'). Most of these souls are exceptionally violent, and can take on a variety of forms, such as succubi or vandella. To keep it simple, any malevolent spirit is classified as a 'Wraith'. Half the job is ferrying souls. The other half is dealing with Wraiths.
So. What does a Wraith do, exactly? The answer is: anything. But it depends on their power level, which we categorize with numbers (one being the lowest, thirteen being the highest). The more powerful Wraiths have appeared throughout human history as recognizable names. Leviathan, for one, the giant sea serpent. Leviathan's power was categorized as a thirteen -- a level much too difficult to destroy. The only option we had for him was a sealing... Even then, we still have to keep his power in check. Too bad he isn't the worst of our problems. Anyways, lesser levels -- say, level one -- merely wander the earth with harmful intent, but are much too weak to do anything about their predicament.
Now another question that may be forming on your mind is -- who runs the society? Simple: the Tamashii Organization. Unfortunately, we can't elaborate too much on the Organization. We don't even know what they look like or their true intentions. The only one who has any idea of who they are is Alucard, and the guy barely gives us any hints, if any at all. All we know is that we follow their orders, no ifs, ands, ors, or buts about it. Now don't go saying we've never tried to found out about our higher-ups. We think some of us have tried. But we also think that we run the risk of Obliteration. Obliteration isn't a pretty thing, by the way. If it comes to it, you're said to be erased from history. It'd be like you were never born in the human world, and never attained new life in the spirit world. No one would remember your name, your voice, your face... All in all, it would be like you were never created. Unfortunately -- again -- we're unsure of how true this is. How could we, if it were true, if it were the way we just described it? For now, the topic of Obliteration is mere rumour, but those of us with common sense know not to go messing with such things.

soul vampires;; Soul vampires are unique creatures that belong to the planes of the afterlife. They were once humans who died of a tragic death, but were strong enough to crossover A-OK. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, though most notably, they all resemble some sort of animal. As their name suggests, a soul vampire practices vampirism, only instead of blood, they 'drink' the essence of a soul -- or rather, the essence of a wraith's soul. A soul vampire's purpose in this realm is to peacefully ferry souls to their destination, be it heaven, purgatory, hell, or limbo. However, a soul vampire can be called into action if a soul becomes a Wraith, ergo, the soul vampire must fight and vanquish said Wraith.
afterlife;; Home to the soul vampires, the afterlife is exactly what one would think it would be -- dark and forlorn. A constant fog enshrouds the land, and only the light of souls can show one the right path. It is full of dark rivers and the echoing cries of ferried souls. The land is grey and barren with dead trees sprouting from the rotting dirt. Dark-coloured mushrooms take the place of flowers in this realm. There is also no daylight. It is constant night.
mortals;; Referring to anything living. It can range from a single-celled organism, to a whopping whale. Humans are categorized as mortals as well, and are considered the most dangerous in the living and spirit worlds.
soul essence;; Soul essence is what makes up a soul. It is forbidden for the essence to be stolen, unless it is by a soul vampire. However, soul vampires can only devour the essence of a soul if the essence belongs to a Wraith that cannot be purified and converted back into a normal, compliant soul. How exactly a soul vampire goes about absorbing essence varies. It can be eaten like one would food, absorbed through the pores of one's body, etc. How it's done it up to the individual.
soul ferrying;; One of the most common routines a soul vampire performs. Soul ferrying is the simple transitioning of a soul, or group of souls, a society member is tasked with from the mortal realm to the afterlife. It is also a soul vampire's job to make sure said souls reach their destination be it heaven, purgatory, hell, or limbo. However, not all souls are willing to crossover.
wraiths;; The souls that are unwilling to crossover are called Wraiths. These souls vary as much as the soul vampires do. Wraiths can range from souls who simply cannot cross due to earthly ties, to full-on demons. All are malevolent in some aspect, some more than others. These souls pose a threat to both worlds, and must be eliminated immediately.
wraith-hunting;; The term for hunting Wraiths. It is used lightly among society members. It can also be a form of competition, if one so chooses, so long as the job gets done.
the "light";; A technique used to fool souls into believing they are going straight to heaven. Even the newest of recruits can learn this technique. Basically, a soul vampire surrounds his or herself in a veil of inviting light. Once the soul is in proximity, the light is immediately cut off and the soul is trapped in the soul vampire's electromagnetic field and must be ferried accordingly. Wraiths had developed the ability to resist the "light", making them that much more tricky to ferry. Like the vampires, even a newly-formed Wraith can resist the "light".
the tamashii organization;; The mysterious organization known to fund the society. No one knows what they're agents look like, or what their true intentions are. Rumours heavily surround the organization, but no one is bold enough to figure out what's up unless they want to risk Obliteration.
obliteration;; Obliteration is said to be the process of breaking down a soul. No one knows how it is done, let alone if Obliteration is real or not. It is also said to completely eradicate said soul from history -- no one would remember your existence, and it would be like you never existed at all. And it is this reason alone that Obliteration remains nothing more than a myth. But it's compelling enough to keep the society in line.

So, now that you know more about us Soul Vampires, you might be interested in the rules -- or rather, laws -- we must uphold. Well, here they are:
one;; This is a literate+ group, meaning we do not want feeble posts. We expect good grammar, spelling, and punctuation. We'd like to see capitalization where needed, and legit quotation marks. Chatspeak ('brb', 'lol', & 'gtg' -- for example) are not allowed in character. One liners are also to be avoided.
two;; We are an all-species roleplay. However, we do not want to see fantasy creatures like dragons or unicorns. Your animal must exist in the real world. Yes, you can be a hybrid animal like a liger, wolphin, or mule as they exist in the real world (albeit in captivity, etc.)
three;; We do not care what colour combination your character has. It can be pink, blue, purple, green, whatever! -- so long as it isn't an eye-bleeding combination. We won't accept an entirely neon-coloured character. If you choose to go with a neon colour, make sure it's balanced out. We suggest black bodies with neon markings. While this group allows sparkle animals, we simply don't want to go over-the-top. And also, just because our characters are from the underworld, doesn't mean your character has to be a depressing grey or black with red demon eyes. Some of these souls like happier colours!
four;; Godmoding, auto-hitting, powerplaying are forbidden. Godmoding and powerplaying should have been described to you before. However, auto-hitting seems to be lacking a definition now a-days so here: auto-hitting is as the name implies. You are attacking an opponent (or unsuspecting victim) without fail all the time. Okay, no. Just no. The one being attacked will decide if the attack hit or not. You just need to write it as an attempt to attack. However, we don't expect every attack to miss. Be wise about how much damage your character takes.
five;; Activity. Is. A. Must. SVS cannot maintain itself if its members are not active. This doesn't mean you have to check in every day, no. But we would like to see your pretty face at least once a week. We understand that some of you like to be in more than one group and that you have your priorities. But still, at least try to commit to the group a little bit, yes? So long as you're able to roleplay, we're golden.
six;; Obliteration. Yes, it happens. But not without good reason. In other words, don't go killing off your character since, you know, they're already dead. If you want your character to die, or rather, Obliterated, please speak with Valthorian on the matter. We'll set up a sub-plot where your character will be Obliterated. Obliteration will only happen if you want to change characters. However, we advise you to have roleplayed your character for a couple weeks before deciding that.
seven;; The application must be filled out. You simply cannot join without doing so. We hope to see some beefy apps out there -- feel free to type as much information as you see fit. Also, please do not post a WIP app here. Do that in Microsoft Word or something.
eight;; WHEN YOU'VE JOINED: You must as SVS to the end of your character's name so we know you are officially a part of the society. Meet with Valthorian in-game to receive an invite to the group thereafter.
