Karma said not a word, her eyes carefully observing the male though outwardly they just seemed to be waiting for him to say something. When he did speak, his words surprised her slightly, but not because of the way he talked of Kali. Sharp, trained eyes caught the look that flashed in Xander's own eyes, the look that practically belonged to the white-grey male, ears catching the strange notes in his voice. Training for survival was one thing, but both Dusk and Karma were trained also to try and read the thoughts and actions of their enemies (or anyone) to prevent being ambushed or attacked. How this is done is by simply catching a stray twitch or flicker upon the visage, an off note when someone is trying to speak. Xander was no exception.
Yes, Karma was angry. But not the way Xander had wanted her to be. Here he was speaking about a pass lover to someone else that caught his interest (and yes Karma knew all too well he had an eye on her, just never admitted it), trying to stir up some reaction from her. The thought sickened her, and she showed it by giving out a disgusted snort in his direction. Did he not think better of her than that? Did he really want to try and make her jealous, to rage and pout about someone else she hardly knew and claim that Kali was nothing but she herself was better? No, that was not Karma. She wasn't someone to bend to someone's will and give in to emotion. Jealousy meant showing envy, a sign that she thought someone else superior than her and stronger, a sign of weakness. Karma envied no one.
No, this was no stab to the heart. This was a stab to her pride. Karma rose on all fours, a quick, fast flick coming from her tail. Electric-blue irises met Xander's own pair full on, practically daring him to hold her gaze. There was a light gleam of anger, but more strongly was the look of disappointment. Despite her help and advice to him, how she stood up for him, he still had the nerve to go and do that.
"Yes, Kali is rather lovely to look at," Karma responded, a dangerous calm in her voice. "But if you don't mind, this talk has kept me from my sleep, and we have much to do. You should sleep as well, maybe Kali will be kind enough to visit your dreams at least and you'll be happy then. Sweet dreams."
Without another word, Karma turned and headed away from the cave. Her head was held high, pace calm and even paced as always. She wasn't going to leave far from the camp, but she took extra care to remain out of Xander's sight. Instead of drawing the proud female closer, the white-grey male had instead pushed Karma even further away.
((Ssssss, bad move. Karma may not recover easily from this one 0.o))
