A few questions regarding preset making.
« on: July 06, 2012, 06:52:08 pm »
I use Gimp.

1. How do you put a fur texture on your preset? If I want the wolf texture on it, it doesn't work because the preset files are shaped like a lion instead of a wolf. Besides, when I do it, it takes me like ten minutes just to get the fur texture to show and the preset itself.

2. How do you make manes? I've tried but it doesn't work.

3. How do you make glow in the dark markings? I don't understand where you put the coding and stuff. I also don't understand how to make it work. I've looked at multiple tutorials but they don't help. I'm sorry I'm so stupid. DX

4. Any tips for making presets? I always make mine look crappy or not how I want it.

5. When you export your preset in-game, does it make a .fhp file for your preset? I want to let my friends see my presets but I don't want them to use 'em. XD

Again, sorry I'm an idiot. I do apologize.

For fur, I just make the shading and stuff myself by taking a small brush and making fur lining like you would on a line drawing. The to make a wolf, just switch the apprence from feline to canine. (in the game under tools>presets> tab 1)

For manes I think you just do the same with the body, color it where you want change, add the fur lines and save, when you go to preset under toold and click on the preset your using, you should see it.

Sorry, I have never used glow XD

Use a small bursh unless you cloroing something in, that way you can get better detail.

Im not sure if it would change the file to be honest, All my presets are never used on my chars XD All I know is when you save, you can see it in your presets, the exporting is all up to a simple test. Export and see XD

Nevermind. -3-

I'm still stuck with most of my questions. Oh well. I'm not good at making presets anyways. That's another idea I can throw out the trash.

Like I said, I'm an idiot.

Why draw the lines when you can copy and paste?

Open your preset image, make sure its ONE layer (save, close then open the file). Open the fur texture in GIMP, copy and paste it on your preset image, select the "New Layer" button for the fur texture. Go to the layer mode and select "Multiply" with the fur texture layer selected. Then replace your existing image.

Its the same with the mane just the other way around. http://feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=13541.0  That tutorial contains some files which might make the mane look better. Place the images in the textures folder. Open up the FManeShade.png in GIMP, make a new layer and change the mode to Multiply and start colouring.

For the glow, just make a preset like you normally would and save it. Open up the UV map again of the feline/canine, make a new normal layer and draw your glow in the dark markings on. When your done, delete the layer with the map on it and save. Dont save it with the same name as your preset! You will have to edit your .material code and put the names of the images in.

My tips are use layers, blur and smudge and tool. Use different colours on each layer so you dont erase the wrong thing.

It only exports to .fhp, you cant change it. I would suggest telling them NOT to use or share it, you could also just take screenies or a video and show them that way.

Dont worry, your not an idiot. I couldnt do all this either once, you will get the hang of it eventually :)

When I did the fur texture thing, the side of the preset came out white like the fur texture. It didn't show one bit of my preset.

But I guess I don't really need the fur texture...It looks realistic enough...

Well, its probably best if we can sort this out for you :)

What exactly are you doing?
Are you sure you clicked the layer with the fur texture and changed the mode to Multiply? You need the fur texture layer to be on Multiply and the normal preset image just on Normal. You also need the layer with the fur texture above the normal preset layer.
Also are you absolutely sure your preset layer is one layer and not a few? Like this image below..
