a way to add new manes/tufts. . ?
« on: December 08, 2012, 08:16:36 am »
Seeing that items are now enabled and already some fantastic wing items have been devised by Tetsu I am wondering if it's possible if our talented mesh-makers out there could make items that are different (and new) forms of manes/tufts for our characters? The possibilities of manes/hair styles would thus be endless and even layered if some new styles were added as items. Of course for those wanting a more specific color there is the option of modifying the texture of the item for presets.  Here are some hair items (I guess we could pretty much call them wigs at this point)that would be fantastic to see:
Linx/long cheek tufts
Fluffy tuft for the base of the ears
Shaggy long hair for the belly, neck, and cheeks (Like long flowy hair on a dog such as a collie)
and of course. . for anime fans there is the endless possibility of various wigs/hairstyles that could be added as items.

It may be possible.
The biggest problem is that the movement wouldn't go with the body if it needs to be assigned to more than one bone. It wouldn't bend with the body. ;c (I've tried with a backfin item I've made that's in the works.)

But if it were head-only, then I'm sure it'd be great! The only other problem is the texture/ color not easily being changed. It'd be more like Presets.

You could make many default colors, like red, blue, yellow, black white, etc.

Yeah I realized that and it's an excellent point- It'd be nowhere near as awesome as adding actual new tufts and manes but it'd be a good start and people could make due with their imaginations. The item fitting with the animations would be rather jarring but I think people will look past that. It's kind of like in Spore when you make a really complex and awesome creature- but the parts don't move well with it; the animation doesn't look quite right but the aesthetics make up for it.
Thanks for your thoughts guys ^^
oh- and even if you could only get the right color through presets I'd still whole-heartedly go for it. And default colors are a good start kinda like the different eye color items.

Not to mention it's be using the same texture for manes we get, and it'd be easy enough to recolor it.

This would be a nice feature, but I can't see it happening. It would be very hard to get it to flow with the rest of the body, and would consume a lot of time. I may be wrong, though!

Actually, if it's just a head tuft, it can go fine with the head-bone assignment. It's just when it leaks onto the neck that it's not possible.
Basically it needs to be on one area.

Is there a way you could make a hairstyle that's divided into 2 items- one part is an item that goes onto the neck and the other part is on the head? that way the hairpieces would fit better with the animations?

It's possible.
They probably wouldn't go together incredibly well, but it would work.

I think it's worth trying- atleast for aesthetics sake.
