Game crashes when I log in...please, help?
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:56:26 am »
I downloaded FeralHeart+ and whenever I logged in, the entire background was black. So, I tried logging into the original FeralHeart, and the same thing happened. I uninstalled both FeralHeart and FeralHeart+, and deleted any lingering files ~ My Computer - (C:) - FeralHeart - Media - Patricles, Objects, etc. & the patch, which was also left over after installation. I re-installed the original FeralHeart, which seemed to be working at first, but then after I selected my character and the loading page would come up, the music would suddenly stop and a pop-up would read "FeralHeart.exe has stopped working, Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." then I would be forced to cancel out. I downloaded FeralHeart+, and the same thing occurred. So, I uninstalled everything and deleted everything all over again but this time for FeralHeart+ instead of saving it to the default location, as said to do by another thread, I saved it as C:/FeralHeartPLUS (no + sign.) Alas, same thing as before kept happening.   :( I switched back and forth multiple times on both the original FH and FH+ rendering subsystems (OpenGL and Direct3D), but it didn't seem to make a difference.
I even tried shutting down and restarting the entire computer, re-installing FH and FH+ while making sure absolutely no other Window programs were open, and changing my computer's performance (from "Power Saver" to "Balanced.) I gave up yesterday and have been going at it for hours today and I can't figure out what else to do anymore!
I had used FH for a looong time with no issues about a year ago, then stopped using it for a few months before trying it again yesterday, with this happening. Is it because my characters/account is older? Doesn't really make sense, though.
I seriously doubt it's because my computer is too old. It is only two years old, Windows 7, and FH works perfectly fine on my sister's much older, slower desktop computer.  :-\
   Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!!!  :D

Btw, I've already read/been to the "BIG Help Thread" and lots of other thread topics relating, but none helped.

Alright I have a few common solutions to your problem but they may not work, depending on the problem.

1. Have you tried reducing your render distance? This shortens the distance of perhaps reading names from other characters and could only be read/seen from up close. You do this by going to Options > Video > View Distance. Make sure it is at ZERO.

2. Taking off all your textures and resulting to the basic of textures. You do this by changing your Rendering Subsystem to Direct3D9 via Options > Video > Rendering Subsystem.

3. Also have you tried taking off the water reflection? You do this via Options > Video > Water Reflection. Make sure that it's ticked/crossed to say that it will ONLY show the water texture instead of reflecting your character.

4. Have you tried using less applications? Try JUST using ONE program at a time? I have to, it works most of the time. This means if you wanted to play Feral Heart you'd have to cancel out your Windows Media Player, so no music or videos in the background as nice as it is. Try to not use so much of Internet Explorer or your Google Chrome, whatever you tend to use. Try and restrict the use of limit to JUST, one application.

Like I said, these solutions may not guarantee it working. But if it doesn't help, either PM an Admin via the forums.

Thanks for the suggestions,
I set the visual options to the lowest-quality settings possible (smaller size, no water reflections, Direct3D9, shorter view distance) and it DID get me farther - I could see myself at Bonfire, as well as name tags and the chat box - but all of the background/surroundings were black :( *sigh*

Thanks anyway, though.

I personally do not suggest getting FerealHeart+ at all, due to glitches and what not that can occur. Either way, if you really want to fix the mod, here is a link.

Also, when you re-installed the game. Did you remove the FeralHeart folder completely?
If not, you should. Otherwise old files will be saved and messes up the game.

Some computers/laptops cannot run OpenGL or Direct3D9 and you'd have to try the other.
Like mine, it cannot run OpenGL without it becoming yellow/black with no background etc.

If nothing of this possibly helps, I hope someone else has the right answer for you.
Good luck.

It is working! A bit slowly, but surely :)

Thank you for your help, I changed both FH and FH+ to Direct3D9 and then logged on to FH. I made my way to Bonfire from Ficho, then logged out of FH and logged back in using FH+. I'm not sure if that is what did it, but it seems to be working now, so I'm not complaining.  ;D
It even works with water reflections, about 1/2 view distance, and the default screen window size.

Thanks again!
