But first Im testing trying to figure out how things work. Now Im trying to make hills and water and stuff but when ever I make a map and I enter the name of it in the "Terrain Hight Map" Box the game crashes. But when I type it in the "Terrain Alpha Map" It works, but okay I made a map with 3 islands and a river in one island. The islands are grey and the river and ocean around that is black. Now what? How do I make a black stripe and black around the islands to water? Argh so many questions.
Are you absolutely certain your terrain map is in
Grayscale mode (and saved as a png)? Most image files are automatically in RGB mode! I'm not too sure about how to change the mode in GIMP, but in Photoshop it's simply a case of going into Image -> Mode -> Grayscale! If it's in any other mode, it'll crash FH!
You should be able to adjust the nasty blacks once you've got both the Alpha Map and Terrain Map working! The alpha map is for all the colours, wheras the terrain gives you all the shiny hills and such you desire.
And oof-- that sometimes happens! As far as I'm aware, you don't need to type in any texture (unless you want something other than the defeault). It works perfectly fine if I leave box blank and just select 'New Water'! Then it's just a case of selecting it, popping into controls and moving it around. If you've not left an indent for water on your terrain map, it might be very shallow!
