Risto shuffled forward, making sure that he didn't brush against anything that would trip him. Dumb pup, Risto thought as he heard a loud clatter, followed by a sheepish giggle. He automatically assumed that it was Gavroche, the careless and uncivilized pup. Sighing, he leaped over a rusty pile of rubber, feeling the texture rub against his paws. When he felt the cold wall, he leaned against it, suddenly feeling hungry. He wondered if Dusty and Gavroche, who had gone hunting, had brought back anything to eat. As if on cue, Dusty lifted his head, his black eyes glittering in the dark.
"Anybody hungry?" he called, kicking a large rat in front of him. "I brought the food Gav and I caught with us."
Risto waited for a while, lingering in the dark as he waited for Dusty's shape to move away from the kill. When the brute did, he bounded forward and snatched up the smaller rat with his jaws, before padding back to where he was. As he placed down the rat, a warm breeze trembled in the air, and he shifted a little to let the poor light shine down on the rat. Its black eyes seemed to be still staring at Risto with full hatred, and its jaws were twisted into a snarl as if it was still defending itself. Sharp teeth glinted from the mouth, and a tiny tongue seemed to flicker slightly. Disgusting claws, curved and gnarled, poked the ground, and its naked tail remained still. The rat looked like it was ready to attack.
Don't be silly, Risto thought, but he anyway stuck a claw into the skin, piercing it. As he did, the light faded, and Risto bent down to consume the creature with a flick of his tail.
