Pine Tree Trouble
« on: July 08, 2015, 07:32:32 pm »
So I downloaded a pine tree mesh a couple of days ago, and yesterday I used it in a new map I'm making. But for some reason, every time I add a new pine tree, it gets harder to place another because of macho lag! I have a group of four sitting on top of a cliff and it causes some lag, but I have a group of ten in another spot and it causes as much lag as one of my gigantic seven-story tall castle builds made of tons of plateaus! The castles are understandable, but... a pine tree?

How can ten pine trees, relatively spread out, cause as much lag as a giant castle? o_o

This is a big problem because I was planning on using the pine tree on a majority of the map.

I suggest removing any collisions on the tree and making sure that 'Own Collision' is not ticked. For a lot of meshes, having Own Collision on will make just a single mesh lag like crazy, especially ones like trees. Hope this helps!

If removing the collisions doesn't solve the issue, the mesh is high poly. High poly meshes or objects with lots of triangles in their model will cause very much lag considering there is alot of triangles to render. If anything, removal of the mesh is a good fix. If it continues to lag, it may be another issue.

I removed the collision I put on the tree, but it hasn't helped. Guess it's just high-poly. :0

It also might be something such as (If it's the kind that waves in the "breeze") Then the waving might be the problem. If it is a still mesh, then it's probably the facts listed above or you have too many items in you map? Hope this helped!

Yeah, The mesh is too high poly for your computer to handle. Try finding another mesh that's less detailed.

It's the only pine tree I found... I suppose I could look around for a new pine tree mesh but I like the look of this one. :0

Ah well... I'll look for a pine tree after the con. :D Thanks for helping

Theirry has some WoW pine trees and other tree meshes.
