Info on how to possibly add new species
« on: November 13, 2015, 08:40:36 am »
UPDATE

I am no longer taking on this project. Before you respond to my original post, please read my comment linked below.

http://www.feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=53916.msg783135#msg783135

Alright everyone. So I've been brainstorming an idea to include more species in the game without the source code.

My first idea was to attempt rigging custom item meshes to the character skeleton, but it seems that regardless if they are rigged, the entire item will ONLY move with the bone you attach it to. So the idea of rigging items flew out the window. I would switch to making multiple pieces for each bone, but it easily distort and look terrible, and it would take way too many items (I peraonally hate how everything in the character creator is listed. Why not a grid with a small image/icon for each marking, item, mane, tail, and etc? And scrolling properly through a giant list is impossible. Ugh, I should see if a mod like this is possible).

My next idea for adding more species...I haven't tested yet. And I won't to tell you how I'm going to do it. Sorry.

First, I'll need to know what animal species you guys like to roleplay the most ingame--that is not a canine or large feline. This other idea will limit how many species I can add, so I want to know the majority that are used. I need as many people to tell me as possible to get a better idea of how many people use any species you guys mention.

List at least three species if you use more than one. Again, list anything but a canine or large feline. I should probably also mention that it is limited to four legged animals. I cannot do anything like birds, unfortunately. But gryphons should be okay.

Also, I'd to ask those who are willing to spread the word about this thread to as many people as you can. The more responses the better.

Would be a pretty neat idea if you can manage to get it to work!

Three of the animals i Roleplay the most that are neither canine or Large feline would be Cats, Rodents and Horses. I see tons of Cats and horses, though Rodent chara are less seen around.

*gasps and flings out fantasy creatures* Gryphons would be awesome if ye could do them. Dragons, sea monsters, kirins, and dryphons *coughing* {jkjk x'D}. Deer would be neat as well. I 'ave seen a few deer 'round. I tried making one, but it didn't turn out very well.

Different tails f'er the original models would be awesome too. If only FH had a gryphon tail f'er lions or a bushy fox tail f'er canines. I'm not sure if that be the same thing that ye are doing. If not, disregard this lil' paragraph.

Tmw you planned a ten minute nap but instead took a whole year.

This whole idea sounds wonderful, regardless if it would work or not.
I'll list some that I commonly see around, too.

- Horse
- Bear
- Dragons in general
- Dinosaurs (varying)
- Mer-animals (Mermaids, aquatic dogs, etc)
- Deer

I like to rp as horses, dragons, I don't know if foxes count but a fox would be cool, I have seen dinosaurs around some, maybe like elephants that would be cool.

Those are my ideas good luck on your project it sounds fun ;)

Hmm, my top 3...
Probably Dragons, horses, and gryphons. (And I'm pretty sure a large majority of this community would probably agree.)

I have a lot of characters as different things in general, really. Like customs species, for example.

But here's a list of creatures I remember having, for one, that aren't unique species of mine (Well, some are different versions of a creature from lore, like werewolves, ghouls. Or there'd be creatures based heavily on lore and stuff, but named something different.) or birds or something like humans.
1. Griffins.
2. Elk/deer
3. Hyena
4. Perhaps a lizard of some sort? Like a komodo dragon?

I don't know what else... Maybe I'll think of more later, but I was a bit rushed with this post. <_<

So for I have:

Dragons [6]
Gryphons [4]
Horses [4]
Deer [4]
Hyenas [3]
Dinosaurs [3]
Goats [1]
Cows [1]
Foxes [1]
Elephants [1]
Bears [1]
Mer-animals [1]
Sea Monsters [1]
Kirins [1]
Bunnies [1]
Domestic Cats [1]
Rodents [1]

Any more responses?

Also, if I'm right... I might actually be able to create a lot more species than I originally thought! I need to test this idea as soon as I can and see what happens.
