the meaning of "spamming" isn't up to a person. spamming by official definition in an online chatroom is when you repetitively send the same message multiple times in purpose to flood a chat. spamming can also be roaring/howling excessively, and whispering someone in the manner. sending three similar messages/movie clips in intervals isn't really spamming.
the person who told you off was wrong. you were advertising for your roleplay on a game designed for roleplay, so that's what you do if you want attention. it's pretty simple.
