Could be you don't have a strong enough internet (wifi) signal.
Try different places in the house or try going to a friend's house to see if they have better internet.
For me if that happens again after a few tries I usually restart my laptop. Usually works.

A lot of new players (who some people call "noobs") find that many other new players (mostly) are looking for "mates" or even new friends who can be located there. Since so much randomness happens there it's safe to say people find it amusing or interesting to watch other people express their personalities in one map that is filled with all kinds of personalities which can be quite fun to meet someone with a unique one.
It's funny to watch a calm person and a energized person hanging out. Like a cat and a dog. (Haha).
Though when I was a new member I wouldn't hang out in Bonfire where it was so populated. I, instead, went to Tunnels. Bonfire was (and still is!) my least favorite place to be.
It's a nice little map though! Can't blame people for not wanting to get lost in the other maps! :p
