The yelp was cut short followed by a splash of water and the sound of more splashing as her brother tried to swim, but his legs were too short. A car started. Hazy fumes hitting the roof of her mouth and she coughed, waking up and her dreams shattered like ice. She stared around almost in a daze as the ground beneath began to move and she winced but quickly remembered she had sheltered on the wheel of a truck the night before. The wheels moved and before it could send her below and crush her, she quickly jumped off to the side and watched the car drive in a sulky manner. She hissed, her back arching in annoyance, especially because her sleep had been broken. Since she was awake, though, she might as well look for something to eat. The dumb dogs in the city always ate up the food and some even tried to eat her. It was quite interesting though to catch pigeons, which seemed to be a main diet of hers when they came around. They were fat and easy and seemed to wait, and because of her lithe and small shape they never suspected her of stalking them. She stalked quietly out of the alley she was in and down the quiet and grey street of New York City.
